The character of Garfield was introduced in 1976, in a local comic strip called "Jon" created
by Jim Davis. This was then accepted by United Feature Syndicate for national distrubution
in 1978, under the name we all know "Garfield". Now we know the basic origins, I thought it would be
interesting to list some more obscure bits of garfield history instead of recap all of the Garfield Wikipedia
, which already does a great job. Instead, I'll pick out some key points and expand on them some more!
Let's talk about "Jon"
"Jon" was the predecessor comic strip to "Garfield", but how come it was so unheard of? This was
because Jon was a local comic, native to Indiana, and by the time it became national it had been
changed to Garfield. This video shows what was considered lost being found by an avid garfield fan!
